The short answer
Upload one clear portrait of each person, add names and a few recognizable details, choose the scenes that fit them, and select the length of the final film. Most productions are ready in about five minutes, with 5–10 minutes allowed for generation and assembly. The result is a downloadable, fictional genre-spanning movie—not an edit of existing wedding footage.
What you make
A fictional film starring the couple
The scenes imagine how they might meet in different cinematic worlds: a historical epic, a night train, a spy film, a western, or another genre that suits them.
Personalized previews before purchase
The first creative decision is visual. You see personalized poster concepts featuring the couple and choose the scenes you want in the film.
One finished cut for the big screen
The selected scenes are generated, assembled with a soundtrack, and delivered as a downloadable film with music and private-event screening rights.
Room to revise
Indie Film and Blockbuster include scene revisions. Each revision lets you choose another scene from the full catalogue, generate it, and either replace a scene in the cut or add the new one.
How it works
1. Add two portraits
Use clear, front-facing photographs with one adult in each image. Good light and an unobstructed face give the production a stronger reference.
2. Tell us who they are
Add names, favorite genres, and a few details friends will recognize. The useful details are visual and specific: a place, an object, a shared ritual, or a line they always say.
3. Choose the scenes
Select the personalized posters that feel most like the film you want to premiere. The package determines how many become moving scenes.
4. Download and test
Most films are ready in about five minutes; allow 5–10 minutes when generation is busy. Download the final film and test the exact file on the venue screen and sound system.
How this differs from a traditional wedding video editor
It creates footage rather than trimming footage
Traditional tools arrange clips you already shot. How They Met generates fictional scenes from portraits and a creative brief.
It is a reception feature, not wedding-day coverage
Use a videographer for the ceremony, speeches, and documentary record. Use this when you want a surprising film to show at the event itself.
It is directed through choices, not a timeline
You do not need editing experience. You choose creative worlds and package length; the production assembles the cut.
It is deliberately short
Short-form scenes work on a reception screen, keep the room’s attention, and leave the audience wanting one more.

Do I need video footage of the couple?
No. The production begins with one portrait of each person. Existing footage is not required.
Can I make the film as a friend rather than the couple?
Yes, provided you have permission to use the portraits and details you submit. The product is designed for friends and family creating a surprise for a special occasion.
How long is the finished wedding video?
Current packages range from a short 15-second film to longer multi-scene cuts. The exact scene count, approximate runtime, resolution, and included revisions are shown before payment.
How quickly is the film delivered?
Most films are ready in about five minutes. Allow 5–10 minutes for the selected scenes to generate and for the final cut to be assembled.
What does a scene revision include?
A scene revision lets you choose another scene from the entire catalogue, generate it, and then replace a scene in the film or add the new scene to the cut. Indie Film includes three revisions and Blockbuster includes five.
Can I download and screen the film?
Yes. You can download the completed film, and the delivered production includes its music and rights for private screening at the wedding or special occasion.
Will it work on a wedding projector?
The finished film uses a standard widescreen format. Download it locally and test it with the venue’s screen, speakers, and playback laptop before the reception.
